Rising Deployment of 5G Network Infrastructure Boosts GNSS Chips for Timing and Synchronization Market Growth

According to our latest study titled “GNSS Chips for Timing and Synchronization Market Forecast to 2031 – Global and Regional Share, Trend, and Growth Opportunity Analysis – by Device and Industry Vertical,” the market was valued at US$ 165.24 million in 2024 and is projected to reach US$ 290.09 million by 2031; it is estimated to register a CAGR of 8.7% from 2025 to 2031. The report includes growth prospects in light of current GNSS chips for timing and synchronization market trends as well as factors influencing the market growth.

Synchronization is vital in mobile networks as it enables smooth operation and consistent service delivery across all segments. In 5G networks, which extensively use time division duplex (TDD), synchronization requirements are more stringent than those in the more familiar frequency division duplex (FDD) systems, as defined by 3GPP standards. Synchronization ensures efficient communication, ultimately leading to optimal radio access network (RAN) performance and seamless data exchange. Strict frequency, time, and phase synchronization are necessary for LTE TDD, elastic RAN, advanced RAN coordination, and NR TDD RAN technologies. The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and Precision Time Protocol (PTP) serve as the two ways to adhere to 3GPP's stringent time requirement. In February 2025, U-Blox, a globally leading provider of positioning and short-range communication technologies for automotive, industrial, and consumer markets, announced a collaboration with Intel to develop the U-Blox M2-ZED-F9T GNSS timing card, a cutting-edge solution tailored for Intel Xeon 6 SoC platforms. The M2-ZED-F9T timing card revolutionizes the implementation of virtualized RANs (vRANs), thereby supporting multiple radio access technologies and providing high-precision time synchronization essential for next-generation mobile networks. The collaboration between U-Blox and Intel to develop the M2-ZED-F9T GNSS timing card represents a significant step forward in the adoption of GNSS-based timing and synchronization chip solutions across modern mobile network infrastructure, particularly for 5G and vRAN. In December 2024, Net Insight secured an order from a leading European telecom operator to deliver its time synchronization solution. The first order of 25 units of Zyntai nodes was secured in partnership with Sekom (Net Insight’s Turkish partner). The Zyntai product is expected to provide network-based time synchronization independent of GNSS, offering telecom operators resilient and cost-efficient time synchronization interoperable with existing synchronization solutions. Thus, the rising deployment of 5G network infrastructure boosts the GNSS chips for timing and synchronization market.

The GNSS chips for timing and synchronization market analysis has been carried out by considering the following segments: device and industry vertical. Based on device, the market is segmented into cellular network devices, small cells, public mobile radios (PMR), Phazor measurement units (PMU), and others. By industry vertical, the GNSS chip timing and synchronization market is segmented into telecom and IT, energy, BFSI, consumer electronics, automotive and transportation, and others. The telecom and IT segment held the largest GNSS chips for timing and synchronization market share in 2024.

The scope of the GNSS chips for timing and synchronization market report is primarily segmented into North America (US, Canada, and Mexico), Europe (Russia, UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Rest of Europe), Asia Pacific (South Korea, China, India, Japan, Australia, and Rest of Asia Pacific), Middle East & Africa (UAE, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and Rest of MEA), and South & Central America (Brazil, Argentina, and Rest of SAM). Asia Pacific accounted for the largest GNSS chips for timing and synchronization market share in 2024. The market in this region is segregated into Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, and the Rest of Asia Pacific. Asia Pacific is one of the largest semiconductor manufacturing hubs in the world, with the presence of industry giants. As part of their broader strategy to strengthen domestic chip production, countries in the region are actively seeking foreign investments to support the development and design of the semiconductor industry. In May 2025, India approved its sixth semiconductor manufacturing facility, a joint venture between HCL and Foxconn, as part of the India Semiconductor Mission. According to the central government, five additional semiconductor units are already in advanced stages of construction. A growing domestic capability in chip production is poised to significantly bolster the development and deployment of GNSS chips in high-tech sectors, especially for timing and synchronization applications. GNSS chip manufacturers operating in Asia Pacific include FURUNO ELECTRIC CO.; Broadcom, Inc.; STMicroelectronics; Septentrio N.V.; U-Blox Holding AG; and QUECTEL WIRELESS SOLUTIONS CO.; and HEMISPHERE GNSS, which are contributing to the growing GNSS chips for timing and synchronization market size in the region.

Hyperautomation is rapidly transforming the financial services industry in Asia Pacific by integrating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotic process automation (RPA), machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), and intelligent business process management systems (iBPMS). Countries in the region are embracing digitalization in financial sectors, which involves the integration of numerous automated processes that take place seamlessly in tandem in real time. According to the Australian Banking Association (ABA) 2024 report, a staggering 99.1% of customer interactions occur via apps or online platforms. Mobile wallet transactions have seen a dramatic rise from US$ 746 million in 2018 to US$ 126 billion in 2023, recording a massive 169-fold increase. As financial institutions rely on automated, real-time, and distributed systems, the demand for effective GNSS timing solutions will continue to grow in the coming years, leading to GNSS chips for timing and synchronization market growth.

Broadcom Inc, Septentrio NV, Furuno Electric Co Ltd, Quectel Wireless Solutions Co Ltd, u-blox Holding AG, Protempis, LLC, Locosys Technology Inc, Novatel Inc., Safran SA, and STMicroelectronics SV are among the key players profiled in the GNSS chips for timing and synchronization market report.
